Loro Piana adopts the lotus

When Loro Piana announces a new textile with flower of lotus, we tighten the ear.

The Italian brand reappointed for its fabulous regatta and its cashmeres of an incredible sweetness, in particular the very difficult to obtain babies cashmere, adds an exclusivity to its line: the fiber of lotus Loro Piana. The fibers of flowers of lotus are pulled with hands in Burma (Myanmar) in a traditional way before being rolled up in a thread which looks like the silk crossed with some linen.

It needs 32 000 lotuses for only 1 meter of invaluable thread, traditionally employed to weave the kesa, or the toga, Buddhist monks of high row. Loro Piana made sure to benefit from a trademark and the rare clothes or the signed accessories Loro Piana Lotus Flower who will be available for Christmas 2010 will cost at least a kidney and a left eye. Some scarfs and about twenty jackets only will be proposed, the jacket that must negotiate around 5 600$ according to the WSJ.

  2. Holy crap. That is a lot of work to go into such a small amount of fabric. Is it really worth it though? I mean, I bet there are synthetic fabrics out there that rival the traits but are way cheaper.
